Fort Dodge Woman In Custody On Multiple Child Endangerment Charges For Severely Injuring Young Child

A Fort Dodge woman was taken into custody and is facing felony charges for alleged multiple acts of child endangerment and willful injury to a young child from July to October in 2024. According to Calhoun County District Court records, 22-year-old Emma Ann Swanson was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office on May 29th on two outstanding warrants for child endangerment- multiple acts, a class B felony and willful injury- causing serious injury, a class C felony. Swanson allegedly committed a series of acts using unreasonable force against a young male child, resulting in skull fracture, several hemorrhages, and skeletal injury. From July 1 through October 31 in 2024, Swanson allegedly deprived the child of food, failed to seek medical attention for observed seizure activity, and caused bruising and fractures across the body, including the child’s skull and scrotum area. Swanson remains in custody at the Carroll County Jail with a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 9. If convicted, Swanson can face a maximum sentence of up to 35 years in prison and $13,660 in fines.
