Fort Dodge Man Sentenced To 11 Years In Federal Prison For Fentanyl Conspiracy

A Fort Dodge man has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for his role in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy that spanned three states and led to at least one fatal overdose. Thirty-year-old Alexander Sebastian pled guilty in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa in January to conspiring to distribute fentanyl. Prosecutors say Sebastian and others were involved in distributing more than 20,000 fentanyl-laced pills across Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota between December 2020 and February 2024. In October 2022, Sebastian knowingly participated in distributing fentanyl pills to an individual who later died from an overdose. A U.S. District Court judge sentenced Sebastian to 132 months in prison on May 30. He was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration and pay $7,000 in restitution to the victim’s family. There is no parole in the federal system. The case was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces initiative.
