Oil Spill In Denison Monday Reaches Boyer River

Officials in Denison are monitoring the Boyer River after a substance believed to be oil made its way into the city’s storm sewers on Monday. According to City Manager Jessica Garcia, a city employee observed the liquid leaking from Wheels and Deals, LLC on S. 15th Street, flowing west on S. 5th Avenue, where it entered a storm sewer at the S. Main Street intersection. It is not clear how much of the material entered the storm sewer, but officials say the product was noticed in the river around 8:13 p.m. Monday evening. Multiple agencies, including city crews, the Denison Fire Department, and Crawford County Emergency Management, are taking additional action to contain the spill. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has been notified of the incident and will take appropriate enforcement action if necessary.
