St. Anthony Regional Hospital Celebrates Cancer Survivors With Parade On Monday

St. Anthony Regional Hospital welcomed a long lineup of cars for the Cancer Survivor Parade event today (Monday) at the Cancer Center. In honor of National Cancer Survivors Day on Sunday, the hospital celebrated those currently battling and those who have undergone treatment for all types of cancer. Oncology Nurse Navigator Jessica Schellhorn says it was exciting to see patients that she has assisted over the years lined up in their cars down the block to be recognized.

The cars were guided through the circle drive of the cancer center, where volunteers greeted them with a gift bag, entered them into a raffle to win a basket, and honored survivorship by displaying a color ribbon corresponding to the cancer and the number of years in remission. Schellhorn says volunteers ranged from individuals who had worked with the patients throughout their treatment journey to many others.

This is the second year the St. Anthony Cancer Center has honored cancer survivors with an event, and Schellhorn says it would be great if this could become an annual event. The Egg Roll Ladies food truck was available to remember late Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Randal Hess, along with the drive-through reception. Pictures from today’s (Monday’s) parade can be found included below.
