Boil Advisory Lifted For Avoca; Advisory Remains In Effect For Other SW Iowa Communities

The Regional Water Rural Water District (RWRWD) lifted the boil advisory for the City of Avoca over the weekend, following two consecutive water tests that were free of contamination. The advisory had been in place since May 14. This update applies only to customers in Avoca. Boil advisories remain in effect for other communities in Shelby, Audubon, Cass, Harrison, and Pottawattamie counties on the RWRWD system, which experienced a systemwide pressure loss due to extremely low well levels. Water towers across the system have maintained pressure for several consecutive weeks thanks to ongoing conservation efforts. However, “Level Yellow” water-use restrictions remain, and residents are urged to continue conserving water amid ongoing drought conditions. Construction on a temporary booster pump connection with the City of Council Bluffs resumed recently and is expected to be complete by June 11, weather permitting. Once operational, the booster station should help prevent further pressure losses. Until then, restrictions on lawn watering, pool filling, and other non-essential water use remain in effect. Bottled water is still available at the Avoca office. RWRWD staff said in a message to customers over the weekend, “Regional Water wants to thank its customers for their patience and perseverance through the last several months. We know it has not been easy. Please know, Regional Water continues to work closely with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to ensure safe drinking water is delivered to its customers.” For updates, contact Regional Water at (712) 343-2413.
