St. Anthony Regional Hospital is celebrating National Cancer Survivor’s Day by inviting current and past cancer patients to the Parade of Survivorship this upcoming Monday. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., patients will be escorted in their vehicles and greeted by community supporters and staff from the St. Anthony Cancer Center as they enter the parade in the circle drive. Participants will receive a celebration bag while supplies last and celebrate years of survivorship with a ribbon that will be displayed in the Cancer Center throughout June. St. Anthony’s Oncology Nurse Navigator, Jessica Schellhorn, says, “We want to honor those with a history of cancer and bring awareness to the continuous challenges faced by cancer survivors, all of which inspire hope for the future. In addition to coping with a serious illness, cancer survivors face many additional challenges, including medical expenses, insufficient insurance coverage, difficulties with employment, and persistent physical, psychological, and financial issues that continue beyond treatment. National Cancer Survivors Day is a celebration for those who have survived, an inspiration for those recently diagnosed, a gathering of support for families, and outreach to the community; cancer survivors deserve to thrive after cancer, not just survive it.” The community will also be able to honor the life of renowned Radiation Oncologist Dr. Randal Hess by purchasing a favorite meal of his from the Egg Roll Ladies food truck that will be there throughout the event. Again, everyone is welcome to join in celebrating National Cancer Survivor’s Day with St. Anthony Regional Hospital this upcoming Monday at the Cancer Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
