Iowa DOT Will Be Updating Sidewalks Along Highway 71 Through Audubon Later This Summer

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) will be completing a sidewalk project along Highway 71 in Audubon this summer. Crews will be working an approximate half mile of the highway through town, creating new and updating existing pathways on the side for pedestrians from North Street to South Division Street. State highway dollars will fund this project to update pedestrian access and make the sidewalks ADA-compliant. The contractors plan to start the project on July 14, and it is expected to last 60 days, weather permitting. During this time, businesses and residences along the highway may have access affected by the project; however, the contractor will work with individuals’ schedules to minimize inconvenience. The City of Kimballton will also be seeing DOT sidewalk projects in the town in 2026, with paths being replaced or established along Highway 44 and Highway 173.
