DLR Presents Potential Scenarios For Next Step On CCSD’s Master Facility Plan

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education were presented with five scenarios on what would be the next steps for the master facility plan for the district. DLR Group performed facility assessments from December 2021 to February 2022, looking at all the buildings’ current state and coming up with a plan to make the district run as efficiently as possible. The two buildings that raised the most red flags when it came to concerns of safety and efficiency was Adams Elementary School and the transportation building. DLR Principal Architect, Eric Beron, says when developing the initial plans, the team followed the guiding principles of safety, student engagement, diverse educational opportunities, inclusion without exception and forward together.

The five scenarios ranged from adding on and remodeling existing buildings to building a new high school complex, all with the goal to retire the Adams Elementary School building. Beron says scenario one is the least expensive while scenario five will have the most cost applied to the district.

Principals provided input that they like the separation of the grades in scenarios three and four. This would place PreK through 2nd grade students at Fairview Elementary, 3rd through 6th grades as an upper elementary that would be remodeled at the middle school and 7th through 12th grades at the high school. Adams Elementary Principal Amy Collison agreed that the separation by grades that way is the most beneficial for students.

Director of Student Services Crystal Boes says it even benefits the administration, making it somewhat easier to hire teachers.

The architect team with DLR will go back to the drawing board to design a more in-depth plan of phase three and four, which would include an addition to the high school, just need to determine if that will be to serve junior high or high school students. DLR will return again over the summer to continue working on the next steps for the master facility plan.
