Carroll City Council To Review Utility Rate Increases, FY25 Budget Amendment At Tuesday’s Meeting

The Carroll City Council is shifting their meeting later into next week because of the Memorial Day holiday and will convene Tuesday instead. The May 27 agenda is somewhat brief. City Manager Aaron Kooiker says city officials will begin with the second readings for solid waste collection, storm water utility, and water rate increases.

The council approved the first reading of those ordinances earlier this month and will consider the second reading and waiving the third. If approved, solid waste fees would grow incrementally each July through 2032, ending at $19.46 per month. Water rates would rise by a combined 27.4 percent through Fiscal Year (FY) 2029, while storm water will now include a 2.5 percent inflation factor each year. The council will also host a routine public hearing on a routine FY25 budget amendment, followed by the necessary appropriations resolution. The city also will formalize a memorandum of understanding with the Kuemper Catholic School System for the city to vacate a section of S. East Street to facilitate proposed expansions at the parochial school’s campus. The only remaining item of note on the agenda includes a vehicle transfer from the Carroll Police Department to the Carroll Building Department. The Tuesday, May 27, Carroll City Council meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall. The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed via the city’s YouTube channel.
