Deb Burnett, BSN, RN, of St. Anthony Regional Hospital has been honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, recognizing her compassionate and impactful care. Burnett was selected from 22 nominees and received the award during a special reception with her family and colleagues last week. The DAISY Award is part of an international program that celebrates nurses for the extraordinary care they provide every day. Burnett joined St. Anthony in 2008 as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) and has since earned her associate degree in nursing (AND), bachelor of science in nursing (BSN), and is currently pursuing her master of science in nursing (MSN) through Chamberlain University, with plans to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner. One nominator wrote, “A patient was in the Emergency Department room, throwing anything he could find. Without hesitation, Deb entered the room. She immediately met him on his level, asked what had happened to him, and how she could help. She showed him empathy, and he immediately calmed down and began talking to her. His main concern was that he didn’t have any shoes. Deb assured him we could help, and within minutes, she had found and given him a pair.” Her dedication reflects the spirit of the DAISY Award and her deep commitment to patient care.
