Senator Grassley Says Stalled Farm Bill Will Hopefully See Movement With Reconciliation Bill

U.S Senator Chuck Grassley is ensuring Iowa farmers that discussion is still going on regarding a new farm bill, just how it gets passed might look a little different. The last five-year farm bill was passed in 2018, making 2025 the seventh year for the plan after passing extensions. Grassley says something needs to get passed for farmers to have certainty in regards to agriculture. While unable to give an update of the farm bill, Grassley says there might be some movement on important key topics that will be considering in another bill.

What is being called the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” is a proposed piece of legislation pushing for passage using the reconciliation process. The 1000+ page bill combine proposals from numerous House committees. Grassley says topics touched in the legislation will provide increase in security when it comes to the agricultural market.

While unable to provide an exact percentage increase, Grassley says reference pricing is proposed to increase by 20 percent, bringing corn over $4 a bushel. Grassley says while the reconciliation bill is just touching base on a few key points that would be considered in the farm bill doesn’t mean the rest will just be forgotten.

Grassley made his comments during his weekly Capitol Hill Report with Iowa reporters.
