The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) High School Concert Band returns from a national competition placing second and receiving Division 1 ratings from all three judges. This past weekend, the CHS Concert Band participated in the Worlds of Fun Festival of Bands in Kansas City, Mo, along with 38 other performances from bands all over the Midwest and other states. The Worlds of Fun Festival of Bands has been hosted for 51 years and is highly competitive, by having highly respected composers and directors from around the world judge the pieces. It has been roughly 15 years since CHS Band has gone to a national competition, according to CHS Band Director, Wayne Lu. The CHS Band performed two pieces, earning second place in their division and received straight “1”s from all three judges. Lu says “Our band kids are ridiculously proud and happy with our performance, as am I. I have some truly incredible students to work with her at CHS and quite proud of their accomplishments.” Students returned home late Sunday night, after spending the weekend down in Kansas City. Other highlights from their trip included a concert at the Kansas City Symphony, a baseball game at Kauffman Stadium, toured the World War I Museum, NCAA Basketball Experience Museum and Worlds of Fun Amusement Park.
