Gov. Kim Reynolds commented on the state’s progress after the 2025 legislative session drew to a close early this (Thursday) morning, nearly two weeks after its originally scheduled deadline. Reynolds says, “I’m proud of the work we did this session to expand on the strong foundation we’ve built over the last several years in healthcare, education, and tax reform.” Major points from the session include the sixth round of tax cuts, halving unemployment insurance taxes to save businesses $1 billion over five years, and adding 460 new medical residency slots to strengthen rural healthcare access. The state also launched its first paid parental leave program for public employees. In education, lawmakers passed measures to improve math and civics proficiency and enacted restrictions on student cell phone use during instructional time. Reynolds emphasizes the session’s balanced budget and the use of the $3.75 billion Taxpayer Relief Fund to support ongoing income tax cuts. Reynolds, who announced she would not seek reelection in 2026, says she looks forward to continuing this work in the next session.
