Stewart Memorial Hospital and Clinics has announced Stephanie Meyer and Vance Wheeler as its 2025 recipients of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, a national recognition celebrating nurses who go above and beyond in patient care and compassion. Meyer, an operating room nurse, was honored for her exceptional support of a young patient undergoing surgery. Her thoughtful approach included explaining procedures in child-friendly language, providing comfort items such as a pink triceratops and the child’s favorite milkshake, and personalizing care down to the patient’s preferred color. Wheeler earned praise for his consistent professionalism, punctuality, and dedication. Patients noted his politeness, attentiveness, and willingness to help with anything, describing him as a calming and reassuring presence. Chief Nursing Officer Ann Lengeling says, “These two individuals exemplify what it means to be a nurse. Stephanie and Vance demonstrate not just clinical skill, but deep compassion, patience, and advocacy for those in their care. They are true role models in our nursing community.” Additional nominees included Kaylynn Larson, Carrie Gentry, Shyla Mohr, and Dawn Parkins. The DAISY Award is part of a national initiative honoring the remarkable impact of nurses across the country.
