Gov. Reynolds Signs Proclamation Easing Fuel Transportation Restrictions

Tanker-Truck-2

Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation to temporarily ease restrictions on the transportation of motor fuels in response to ongoing fuel supply shortages affecting Iowa and other states. The proclamation, effective immediately through 11:59 p.m. on May 23, suspends specific regulatory provisions of Iowa law to allow greater flexibility for motor carriers and drivers delivering diesel, gasoline, ethanol, biodiesel, and fuel blends. Specifically, the order lifts hours-of-service requirements to facilitate more efficient fuel distribution. The order does not exempt carriers from other federal safety and licensing regulations. The temporary regulatory relief aims to address delays caused by longer transport routes and extended wait times at fuel terminals while maintaining safety and compliance standards for commercial drivers. More details are available through the Iowa Department of Transportation.
