Carroll City Council To Review Utility Rates, Tree Removal At Monday’s Meeting

The Carroll City Council convenes Monday evening for its next regularly scheduled meeting, with an agenda that includes several ordinance updates, tree removal bids, and more. The May 12 meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall. City Manager Aaron Kooiker says the first ordinance on the docket for the council is changing the peddlers’ permit to simplify the process for local food trucks and other similar businesses.

Kooiker says the council will also consider the ordinance governing garbage collection, stormwater utility, and water rates.

Kooiker adds that the years-long process of removing dying or dead trees in the city’s rights-of-way continues this summer, and the council is reviewing contractor bids.

Kooiker says Fire Chief Dan Hannasch will also report on the proceeds from the sale of one of the department’s vehicles near the end of the meeting.

The Newell Fire Department submitted the winning bid for that rescue vehicle, which was $190,000. Other items on Monday’s agenda include a proclamation from Mayor Jerry Fleshner to designate May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Carroll, an application from Brown’s Shoe Fit in downtown for the city’s $100,000 façade grant program, and summer asphalt patching. Monday’s meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed via the city’s YouTube channel. Links to the agenda and video are included below.
