A Carroll man was seriously injured yesterday (Thursday) afternoon following a truck/pedestrian accident near the Fairview Elementary School. According to the Carroll Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 2:28 p.m. at the intersection of 18th Street and Grant Road. Authorities say a 16-year-old Carroll male was traveling southbound on Grant Road in a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup and came to a stop at the posted stop sign. At the same time, 77-year-old Thomas Forbes of Carroll was walking westbound through the north crosswalk at the intersection. The teen failed to see Forbes and struck him. He was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with suspected serious injury and later transferred to a Des Moines hospital for treatment. Authorities say charges, if any, are pending the completion of the investigation. Carroll Broadcasting will update this story when the complete report is released.
