New Sculpture Installed At Lake View Community Center

A new public sculpture was installed yesterday (Tuesday) in front of the Lake View Community Center, adding a unique artistic touch to the town’s cultural hub. Titled “The Spirit of Lake View,” the piece was created by Dubuque-based artist Gail Chavenelle and features sails within the outline of a person carrying a musical note and banner. After reviewing multiple proposals, the Lake View Hometown Pride Committee selected the design, citing its inclusive representation of the community’s identity. Hometown Pride Committee Member Brent Mueggenberg says, “During the brainstorming process, Gail emphasized to our group that her specialty is depicting people that transcend categories of race, ethnicity, or gender. We felt that the sculpture’s inclusivity, along with its references to the lake and culture, imparted a sense of welcoming and enjoyment that all guests will experience in the Lake View Community Center.” The sculpture was funded through grants from the Iowa Great Places program and Aureon. A second sculpture will be added to the north side of the building at a later date. Residents can check out the sculpture in person this weekend at the Lake View Community Center’s grand opening. Carroll Broadcasting will have more on that event in upcoming newscasts.
