Audubon and Guthrie County are currently placed on an active burn ban until further notice. Even with the latest snowstorm bringing in significant snow that is melting, conditions are still drier than normal, increasing the chance of any fire quickly going out of control. Open burning of any kind is prohibited, and those caught violating these orders will be charged with a simple misdemeanor, a penalty that can face up to 30 days in jail and $800 in fines. Those with further questions are asked to contact their local fire department chief. Seven other counties are currently in a burn ban, including Adair, Mills, Montgomery Page, and Decatur Counties.
