Daylight Saving Time Begins Sunday; Check Smoke Detector Batteries

Daylight saving time begins this weekend, meaning clocks will “spring forward” one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9. Most people will set their clocks ahead before going to bed Saturday night, losing an hour of sleep but gaining an extra hour of evening daylight. The change applies to most of the United States, except for Hawaii and most of Arizona, which do not observe daylight saving time. The semi-annual time change also serves as a reminder for households to check and replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. The National Fire Protection Association recommends regularly testing these devices to ensure they function correctly in case of an emergency. Daylight saving time will remain in effect until Sunday, Nov. 2, when clocks will “fall back” one hour.
