Gov. Reynolds Signs Executive Order Creating Iowa DOGE Task Force

Gov. Kim Reynolds on Monday signed an executive order establishing the Iowa DOGE Task Force, with the goal of enhancing state government efficiency and stretching taxpayers’ impact. The task force will be led by Emily Schmitt, the chief administrative officer and general counsel at Sukup Manufacturing, and will focus on three key areas: leveraging emerging technology, refining workforce training programs, and streamlining government operations. Reynolds says, “This group will make recommendations on maximizing return on taxpayer investment, further refining our workforce and job training programs, and leveraging technology, such as artificial intelligence.” The task force will meet within 60 days and submit recommendations within 180 days. Reynolds’ administration has already cut 21 state agencies, eliminated 600 open positions, removed 1,200 regulations, and saved taxpayers an estimated $217 million in 18 months—exceeding initial four-year projections.
