The Glidden City Council has rejected the bid for updates to the enclosed shelter house and will now return to the drawing board to explore new avenues for this project. The shelter house project consisted of adding heat and air conditioning to the existing structure at the city park, creating a building similar to the Kruger Shelter to allow for more year-round use. City Administrator Brooke Peterson says only one bid was received and it came in higher than expected.
Badding Construction submitted the only bid for $554,000, almost $200,000 over the engineer’s estimate. Peterson says the council is reviewing other cost-saving options or different ideas if they plan to spend around $500,000.
The city council has suggested using city crews to tear down the existing shelter as a cost-saving measure if they decide to build a new structure. Options will continue to be explored and discussed in future city council meetings.
