South-Central Calhoun Community School District Exploring The Idea Of No Cell Phone Policy For Students

The South-Central Calhoun (SCC) Community School District is looking into implementing a “no cell phone” policy for students in the upcoming 2024-25 school year. A School Improvement Advisory Committee initiated the idea, holding a meeting in April and introducing the concept to administrators, staff, and parents in attendance. Superintendent Brad Anderson wants to clarify that no official decision has been made and that the district is just looking into the possibility for several reasons.

The committee is currently gathering input from teachers, staff, and parents about implementing a no-phone policy. Anderson says the group has touched on what that might look like and is brainstorming ideas before bringing it to the school board.

In the next week, a survey will be distributed to all members of the district, providing an opportunity for more detailed feedback. For those who prefer a more direct approach, Anderson says that the potential policy will be discussed at the Monday, June 17 board meeting and again at the July 15 meeting. The superintendent and school board aim to finalize the policy at or before the July meeting, with the goal of implementing it for the upcoming school year.
