Lenus “Linny” Haberl of Roselle

Lenus “Linny” Haberl, age 83, of Roselle, died Monday, April 29, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle.  The celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder.  Music will be by Kathy Halbur and the Holy Angels Choir.  Lector and Eucharistic Minister will be Sharon Kasperbauer.  Gift Bearers will be Amber Eich, Danielle Haberl, and Emily Cornelius.  Casket Bearers will be Roger Kasperbauer, Heath Kasperbauer, Nathan Hermsen, Nicholas Haberl, Nolan Eich, and Gunner Cornelius.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.  The Whitetails Unlimited will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.  A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m.  The casket will be moved to Holy Angels Church in Roselle on Saturday morning where visitation will resume from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

Lenus, the son of John and Esther (Bald) Haberl was born on September 17, 1940 in Botna, Iowa.  He grew up in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1959.  On August 6, 1963 Linny was inducted into the United States Army serving in Munich, Germany.  Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the area.

On October 2, 1965 Linny was united in marriage to Marlene Kasperbauer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham.  The couple made their home in Roselle.  Linny worked for Gute Tree Service, Fareway, and lastly Service Master.  In retirement he became a cake baker with Marlene, mixing and baking alongside her.  In his early years Linny enjoyed camping.  Over the years he was an avid deer hunter, fisherman, and volunteered as a Hunter Education Instructor.  He was a member of the Iowa Bow Hunter Association, founding member of Whitetails Unlimited, National Rifle Association, and Holy Angels Parish in Roselle.

Linny is survived by his wife Marlene Haberl of Roselle; children: John (Shelley) Haberl of Halbur, Gina (Mike) Hermsen of Maple River; grandchildren: Amber (Nolan) Eich of Carroll, Danielle Haberl of Halbur, Nicholas Haberl of Halbur, Emily (Gunner) Cornelius of Charter Oak, and Nathan Hermsen of Arcadia; his sister, Jeanette Reiling of Carroll; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ione Behn of Carroll, Jeanette (Dennis) Cowels of Omaha, Mary (Larry) Railsback of Guthrie Center, Eugene (Sharon) Kasperbauer of Roselle, Linda Bauer of Coon Rapids, Roger (Cindy) Kasperbauer of Dedham, Gerrard Kasperbauer of Idaho, Anita (Tom) Baumeister of Carroll, and Maribeth Kasperbauer of Glidden, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Doug, his parents, John and Esther; parents-in-law: Herman and Arlene Kasperbauer; his sister, Marian (Bill) Lengel, brothers-in-law: Joe Reiling, Scott Kasperbauer, Steve Bauer, and Jerome Schreck.
