In recognition of National Severe Weather Awareness Week, the Carroll County Emergency Management (EMD), along with the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMD), National Weather Service (NWS) and Iowa Emergency Management Association (IEMA) are teaming up to highlight the importance of being aware and prepared for severe weather. Each day this week, the Carroll County EMD will be focusing on a new topic, with tips on how to remain safe during the heightened weather conditions. Today’s (Monday) focus will be on lightning safety, followed by tornado safety on Tuesday. Wednesday will be all about being prepared for all kinds of weather, with the annual statewide tornado drill taking place on that day starting at 10 a.m., with all businesses, organizations and households encouraged to participate. Hail and wind safety will be the discussion on Thursday and flood safety will finish out the week on Friday. Check out the Carroll County EMD Facebook page for all the latest information or sign up for weather alerts to be sent straight to your phone by heading to their website.
