A Local Chiropractor Named First Honoree For Parker University Newest Award

A local chiropractor was recently honored as the first nominated for the Parker University Heros and Legends Award at the Parker Seminar in Las Vegas on Feb. 22. Dr. Jack Donovan has served the Carroll area, opening his first office in 1953, in the basement of the Rancho Grande Restaurant and lived above his office. He worked there until 1956 before constructing his new practice space on Third Street, where he practiced until 2020, when he officially retired at 91. Dr. Donovan says his favorite achievement over his almost 70-year career was assisting the Carroll community.

Donovan says his trip to Las Vegas was a great time. Donovan, Dr. Peter Juergens, who purchased the retired chiropractor’s building to start his practice, and Juergens’ oldest son Emmett accompanied Donovan to the seminar. Donovan says he knew something was up but couldn’t figure out exactly what.

While Donovan is not sure how he was nominated for this award, he says it must have been someone along the way who recognized his contributions to chiropractic research, buildings, and new chiropractors. After many years of service, Donovan passes on his wisdom to the next generation of practicing healers.

While he knew he would miss being a chiropractor, at 91, he said it was time to retire officially. Since his retirement in 2020, Donovan says he enjoys having coffee with his longtime friends, playing a good golf game, and slowing down to reflect on his lifetime accomplishments.
