Carroll County Compensation Board Meets Tuesday To Review Elected Officials’ Salaries

The Carroll County Compensation Board meets tomorrow (Tuesday) evening to open the annual discussion on salaries for the county’s elected officials. The board convenes at 5 p.m. in the courtroom at the courthouse. Its members consist of appointed representatives from the Carroll County Attorney, Recorder, Treasurer, Auditor, Sheriff, and two from the Carroll County Board of Supervisors. Their opening item of business will be to elect a chairman, vice chairman, and secretary for the proceedings. They will then discuss the elected officials’ salaries, including comparisons to similarly sized counties, corresponding jobs in the private sector, and other factors. Following these discussions, the compensation board put together a recommendation to go to the board of supervisors for final approval. The supervisors can adjust the suggestions, but they must be done uniformly across all positions, excluding pay for the supervisors themselves. For example, last year’s recommendation from the compensation board was for a 17 percent increase for the Sheriff, 12 percent for the Treasurer, Recorder, and County Attorney, 10 percent for the Auditor, and nine percent for the Board of Supervisors. However, the supervisors ended up cutting that recommendation by 57 percent. The Tuesday, Nov. 28 meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed via the Carroll County YouTube channel. A link to the agenda and the video are included below.
