A Carroll man accused of fleeing from a state trooper during a traffic stop earlier this summer has pled guilty to an eluding charge in Carroll County District Court. Court records show 27-year-old Jacob Lawrence Maasen was arrested on June 11 for eluding and first-offense possession of a controlled substance, both serious misdemeanors. An Iowa State Patrol affidavit says a state trooper attempted to stop Maasen for speeding and unsafe passing on Highway 71 north of Carroll. He initially started pulling over but took off at a high rate. The pursuit ended a little over a mile later. After reaching an agreement with prosecutors, Maasen submitted his guilty plea to the eluding charge, and any remaining charges are to be dismissed after sentencing.
