Like many schools in the area, classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 23, for the South Central Calhoun (SCC) Titans. While students and teachers were off for the summer, Superintendent Brad Anderson says their building and grounds team were busy for the last 2.5 months.

According to Anderson, the district is welcoming nine new staff members to their educational team this year, ranging from teachers to administration. Anderson says they are very fortunate to have the quality of staff that they do, as they were unable to fill several open positions, which is becoming a common occurrence for many Iowa schools.

SCC’s open houses are scheduled for Aug. 22, the day before classes begin. From 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., students are welcome to drop off school supplies, check out their classroom, and meet their teachers at any of the district’s three attendance centers. Anderson says students and parents often experience “back-to-school jitters,” but he says SCC’s main focus is to provide a place where all Titans can succeed.

Again, SCC classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 23. New staff will report for training on Thursday, Aug. 17, and all staff returns on Friday, Aug. 18. To stay up to date with all things SCC, be sure to regularly check the district’s website, a link to which is included with this story online.
