Housing Remains The Primary Focus At Carroll City Council’s Next Meeting

Carroll-City-Hall-5

The Carroll City Council will remain focused on addressing the community’s housing issues during their meeting on Monday, Aug. 14. The session begins at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall. City Manager Aaron Kooiker says Mayor Mark Beardmore has a special thank you for RAGBRAI and state baseball volunteers planned on the agenda before they get down to business.

Between RAGBRAI and state baseball, Carroll welcomed more than 50,000 visitors to the community over those nine days. City officials will then focus on housing, beginning with the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) Empower Rural Iowa Housing Assessment program.

With that assessment in hand, Kooiker says it will give the city a better chance of receiving state housing funding in future grant cycles. The council will then consider a request for bids for city-owned property at 408 W. 7th Street to restore the structure into usable housing stock.

The council will finish the meeting with a closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(j), “to discuss the purchase of particular real estate where premature disclosure could be reasonably expected to increase the price the City would have to pay for the property.” The public is invited to attend Monday’s meeting, and it will also be live-streamed via the city’s YouTube Channel.
