MRHC Welcomes New Speech Therapist, Carrie Scharfenkamp

Manning Regional Healthcare Center (MRHC) is pleased to welcome Carrie Scharfenkamp, M.A. CF-SLP, to their staff as a new speech therapist for adults and children. Scharfenkamp, who grew up in the Carroll area, holds an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from Iowa State University, and a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of South Dakota. Her areas of expertise include various speech and language disorders and conditions such as MS, dementia, autism, stroke, and more. She offers evaluation and treatment in speech, language, swallowing, voice, cognition, and augmentative communication for individuals of all ages. Scharfenkamp says, “I am excited to begin offering services that are needed in the area, individualized to the population’s needs, and trying new things that the hospital has not been able to offer in the recent past. I would love to offer co-treatment sessions with occupational or physical therapy if appropriate and expand services to a wider variety of populations like adults and inpatients. Manning has a great, supportive community with an expanding hospital, and I look forward to being part of its continued growth and excellent services.” Warning signs for speech therapy needs include difficulties with speech, delays in development, trouble answering questions, fluency issues, eating difficulties, or communication problems. To schedule a speech therapy appointment with Scharfenkamp, please call (712) 655-8298.
