Glidden Man Killed Tuesday In UTV/Van Crash Near Carroll

A Glidden man was killed yesterday (Tuesday) after his UTV was struck broadside by a utility van southeast of Carroll. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 62-year-old Randy Daniel of Glidden was eastbound ON 230th Street in a 2022 John Deere Gator at approximately 2:26 p.m. Authorities say Daniel failed to stop for the posted stop sign at the intersection with Olympic Avenue. A 2017 Chevy Express van, operated by 60-year-old Paul Heuton of Carroll, was traveling northbound on Olympic and took evasive action but could not avoid striking the UTV on the passenger side. The Gator rolled following the collision and came to rest in the northeast ditch. Daniel was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services with life-threatening injuries. He was later airlifted for treatment but died due to the severity of his wounds. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Carroll Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
