Carol was born on April 14, 1943, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of William Larry and Jennie Mae (Noland) Troutman. She attended grade school with her siblings and neighbors at the Evergreen School House between Dedham and Coon Rapids.  Carol graduated from the Coon Rapids High School with the Class of 1961. She was active in high school where she played forward on the girls basketball team, cheerlead for football team, and became the homecoming queen for her class.  Over the years she remained in contact with many of her classmates and enjoyed their get togethers.  After high school she attended business trade school in Minneapolis before moving to work in Des Moines for a few years until moving back to Coon Rapids.

On August 31, 1963, she was united in marriage to Gerald “Butch” Golwitzer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. They were blessed with four sons: Jeffry, Kevin, Jarret, and Michael. She was a homemaker while the boys were young.  In 1976 she went to work for the Garst Company as a receptionist and bookkeeper until she retired in 2003.  Carol enjoyed working with Butch and all the other employees and customers of the Garst Company.

Carol was an accomplished cook and baker.  She was always tasked with baking the pies and other treats for family events.  No one ever went hungry around her kitchen where the smell of roasts, soups, and baking cookies made your mouth water.  In the summer she loved spending time in her yard tending to her flowers and vegetable garden and mowing several acres of grass. In the winter she loved spending time in Florida at Jeff’s house where she also enjoyed all the green plants and flowers.

Most of all she cherished the time spent with her family whether it was attending their sporting events or hosting family get-togethers.  Christmas was her favorite holiday.  She loved the trees, decorations, and gathering gifts for the traditional “White Elephant” game.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald “Butch” Golwitzer of Dedham, IA; sons: Jeffry (Sonja) Golwitzer of Lithia, FL, Kevin (Shannon) Golwitzer of Elkhart, IA, Mike (Tracy) Golwitzer of Booneville, IA; daughter-in-law, Brenda Golwitzer of West Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Kassidee Golwitzer, Sean Golwitzer, Anngie Nelson, Lindsey Golwitzer, Kaylie Golwitzer, Colton Golwitzer, and Derek (Gwen) Golwitzer; 3 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Peggy (Bob) Eason, Mary (Merle) Muench, Gary “Butch” Troutman, and Dave (Roxanne) Troutman; sister-in-law, Beth Troutman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and all the grand dogs that she dearly loved.
