A Storm Lake man found himself in jail yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon after allegedly drunkenly punching a police officer during an arrest. At approximately 3:48 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department responded to Casey’s in the 800 block of Flindt Drive in response to a customer refusing to pay for items. Upon arrival, officers identified the suspect as 28-year-old Manuel Alejandro Gonzalez and noticed signs of alcohol impairment. Police attempted to arrest Gonzalez, but he resisted and struck one of the officers in the face with his fist. Gonzalez was booked into the Buena Vista County jail on a plethora of charges, including assault on a peace officer causing bodily injury and second-offense operating while intoxicated, aggravated misdemeanors, trespass causing injury, a serious misdemeanor, and public intoxication and driving while suspended, simple misdemeanors.
