Sentencing Hearing For Illinois Man Who Injured Carroll Officer In March 2021 Set For May 11

The sentencing hearing for an Illinois man who pled guilty earlier this month to seriously injuring a Carroll Police Officer during a traffic stop two years ago is scheduled for later this spring. According to Carroll County District Court records, 29-year-old Dennis James Guider Jr. of Chicago Heights, Ill. pled guilty to serious injury by vehicle, a class D felony. The charge stems from the March 5, 2021 incident in which Guider attempted to flee from a traffic stop at speeds up to 60 mph. During the exchange, a Carroll officer ended up on the car’s hood and was injured after being thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit. A presentencing investigation has been ordered, and Guider’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 11 at the Carroll County Courthouse. A class D felony in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison. Guider is currently being held at the Carroll County jail. He was extradited to Iowa from the Illinois Department of Corrections earlier this month, where he was serving time on unrelated charges.
