Nearly 20 Carroll High School (CHS) and Kuemper Catholic High School (KHS) large group speech teams are advancing to the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) state contest following their district competition over the weekend. Eighteen teams from CHS and seven from KHS traveled to Manson on Saturday for their performance. Eleven CHS teams earned “I” or “excellent” ratings in ensemble acting, musical theatre, group improvisation, readers theatre, and short film to move on to the next stage. As for KHS, six groups advanced in ensemble acting, musical theatre, solo mime, group mime, and group improvisation. Teams will travel to LeMars on Saturday, Feb. 4 for the IHSSA state contest. CHS is coached by Bill Polking, Tami Meiners, and Sean Canuso. KHS large group speech is coached by Deb Gute, Robert Becker, Susan Glass, and Jake Gute.
