The Carroll County Board of Supervisors continues to move forward with plans to sell the county-owned Breda Depot to a local couple interested in converting it into a bike rental shop and café. For the past several months, county officials have been in discussions with Rhonda and Chuck Martin of Breda, who approached the board at the end of last year with a proposal to purchase the former Chicago and North Western building that sits on the Sauk Rail Trail. The Martins plan to renovate the historic depot, which has sat unused for years, and open the bike shop/café. The supervisors appear amenable to the idea, but movement is slow due to the legal requirements of selling publicly owned property. The board will also continue reviewing proposed updates to the Carroll County Employee handbook and appoint county condemnation compensation commissioners at Monday’s meeting. Other agenda items include the Recorder quarterly report, a discussion on township clerk/trustee pay adjustments, and Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 funding requests. The Monday, Jan. 23 meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the Carroll County Courthouse. The full agenda and details on how to attend remotely are included below.
