A local family’s mission to ensure kids throughout the area have a book to read this Christmas season returns to Carroll next week. More than 15 years ago, Luanne Kustra and her daughter, Katie, were helping to wrap gifts for New Opportunities families when Katie noticed none of the packages included any books. Kustra says that moment is when the Holly Jolly Reading Drive was born.
The Holly Jolly Reading Drive’s bus will be parked outside the Carroll Godfather’s Pizza from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Residents are asked to drop off new or gently used books for readers from 0 to 18 years of age. Supporters who donate during the drive will receive $1 off a buffet dinner at Godfather’s that night. Kustra says there are other ways to donate as well.
She adds they are also accepting monetary donations, allowing New Opportunities to fill in any gaps for certain ages or interests. Kustra says the Holly Jolly Reading Drive is an excellent reminder for all families to spend time enjoying a good book together.
Again, the Holly Jolly Reading Drive lasts from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Godfather’s Pizza at 624 Highway 30 in Carroll. Kustra says they hope to collect at least 500 books to be distributed to families in the area this holiday season.
