Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, District 4 Congressman Randy Feenstra, and multiple Republican candidates on the Nov. 8 ballot gathered in Carroll yesterday (Thursday) to energize voters heading into Election Day. Reynolds told the crowd of around 125 people at the Carroll County GOP Headquarters that Republicans’ commitment to fiscal responsibility, lowering taxes, and support for law and order has made Iowa one of the best places in the nation to live.

Feenstra, who is finishing out his freshman term in the minority in the U.S. House of Representatives, lays the blame for high inflation, rising energy costs, and growing crime rates on Democrats in Washington, DC, who control the House, Senate, and the White House.

Guthrie County Attorney Brenna Bird is challenging longtime Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller, who has held the position for nearly 40 years. Bird received endorsements from over 70 county sheriffs and centered her campaign on supporting law enforcement. She also pledged to fight government overreach at the federal level.

Roby Smith, the GOP nominee for Iowa Treasurer, is also looking to unseat a longtime Democrat incumbent, Michael Fitzgerald. One of the state treasurer’s key responsibilities is overseeing the 529 college savings plan. Smith says the program has floundered under Fitzgerald.

These candidates are traveling across the state, making their final push before Nov. 8, which included stops in Guthrie Center, Carroll, Storm Lake, Rockwell City, Denison, and many others.
