District 2 Carroll County Supervisor Candidates Outline Positions On Budgets, Policy

Carroll County District 2 Supervisor is one of only three local contested races on the ballot for the upcoming Nov. 8 elections. Republican nominee Mike Andersen of Breda is challenging Democratic incumbent Dean Schettler, and both appeared during Wednesday’s Carroll Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum. One of the first questions examined county expenditures and where each would make cuts if required. Andersen says he considers a substantial amount of spending at the county level unnecessary and would begin with support for nongovernmental organizations.

Schettler says he believes everything in the county’s budget is justifiable, from providing essential services to promoting economic development.

Schettler was then asked to share what he considers his chief accomplishment as a supervisor. He quickly cited his work on the Region V Hazmat Board.

The question varied slightly for Andersen, asking what he hopes to tell voters at the end of his term if elected.

Video from Wednesday’s forum is included with this story on our website. Trish Roberts moderated the 90-minute presentation. It featured candidates from the three contested and four uncontested races in Carroll County.
