The Carroll Public Library Board of Trustees has announced the hire of Wendy Johnson as the next Carroll Library Director. Johnson is a Scranton native who returned to her hometown to raise her family and has held the position of Scranton Library Director for the last four years. Johnson is a 2002 graduate of the University of Iowa. Under her direction, the Scranton library saw growth in nearly all areas: circulation, program participation, community engagement, and more. City officials, department heads, and the board of trustees conducted interviews with the three highly qualified candidates on Monday. After much deliberation, the board offered the position to Johnson. Board of Trustees President Summer Parrott says, “We are very excited to welcome Wendy as the City’s next Library Director. The Carroll Public Library serves as an important part in our community by providing resources and services to the Carroll community. Wendy has proven her ability as a Library Director and leader who can prepare the organization for the future.” Johnson is expected to officially begin in her new role on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The Carroll Public Library has been without a formal director since May after Johnson’s predecessor, Rachel Van Erdewyk, announced she would be stepping away from the director position.
