LifeServe Blood Center Urges Donors To Give As Blood Supply Dips To Dangerously Low Levels

Blood supplies have dipped dangerously low at national and local levels, according to staff at blood collection centers. Earlier this week, reports showed there is less than a one-day supply of more than half the blood types, which is causing concern for hospitals and patients in need of transfusions. LifeServe CEO Stacy Sime says, “We normally have a three- to five-day supply of all blood types on our shelves. Our blood supply has dwindled to less than a one-day supply. Unfortunately, we’ve seen less blood donors these last few months, but the demand for blood products continues to rise, and we need to immediately increase our supply.” In an effort to address the shortage, LifeServe is extending service hours at collection centers and urging eligible donors to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Six blood drives are coming up in the listening area through the Fourth of July weekend, including the Carroll Broadcasting special blood drive on July 1. A list of the planned drives and details on reserving your spot can be found included below.
