Hundreds of soccer players and their families are heading to Carroll this weekend for the community’s second annual Kick It Up soccer tournament. The event is a joint venture between local soccer fans, led by Ryan Milligan, and the Carroll Parks and Recreation Department. Milligan says they realized western Iowa lacked larger tournaments outside metro areas and decided Carroll would be a great place to fill that gap.
In its first year, Kick It Up saw 19 teams and over 300 players participate in the inaugural tournament. According to Milligan, 2022’s event has grown to 24 teams with an estimated 350 players competing in three age categories: under 10, under 12, and under 14.
Kick It Up is modeled after the Carroll Chamber of Commerce’s popular Court Classic basketball tournament, with licensed referees officiating the matches. Play begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday and continues throughout the day at the Carroll Soccer Complex.
In addition to bringing a high-quality soccer tournament to western Iowa, Milligan says Kick It Up will also benefit local restaurants and retailers as players, fans, and coaches experience Carroll. Event details and the full schedule can be included below.
