Carroll city officials have announced the finalists in their search for a new fire chief. The candidates are current Carroll Assistant Fire Chief, Dan Hannasch, Fort Dodge Fire Department Lieutenant, Jon Schreck, and Carroll Fire Department Lieutenant, Brad Warnke. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says they are fortunate to have such an excellent selection of applicants, all with Carroll ties. Hannasch joined the fire department in 1993 and serves as the Fleet Safety Manager for Core-Mark International. Before becoming a full-time firefighter in Fort Dodge, Schreck was a member of the volunteer departments in Carroll and Webster City. He also serves as an educator for Region V Hazmat and Fire Science Instructor at Iowa Central Community College. Warnke joined the Carroll Fire Department in 2006 and is currently employed by the Carroll County Secondary Roads Department. These finalists were chosen from an initial pool of a half-dozen candidates. Interviews are slated for Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10. According to Pogge-Weaver, many people are involved in this process, including Carroll Fire Department members.

The public will also have an opportunity to offer their input on the candidates during a meet-and-greet next week at the Carrollton Centre. Pogge-Weaver says that reception is planned for Thursday evening.

Pogge-Weaver anticipates the city will be ready to announce a hire soon after the interviews are completed. The chosen candidate will likely begin near the end of July, as current Fire Chief, Greg Schreck, will retire on July 22 after a forty-year career with the Carroll Fire Department.
