Carroll County Foster Grandparents Program Seeks New Volunteers

The Carroll County Foster Grandparents program is searching for seniors interested in becoming more involved with area youth at local schools, Head Start, daycares, and libraries. According to Program Director, Terri Taylor, Foster Grandparents began more than 50 years ago and has been in Carroll County for nearly three decades. She says participation is a win-win scenario for all involved.

Taylor says the Foster Grandparents program is just as rewarding for the volunteers as the children.

The commitment level is up to the volunteer and can range from just a few hours per week to dozens. Taylor says potential foster grandparents will need to complete some simple training seminars before being placed at a site. She says it is not uncommon for new volunteers who were hesitant at first to stay with the program for years.

She adds there are some eligibility requirements to participate, including income limitations, but very rarely is a potential volunteer excluded solely due to income. Foster grandparents are hosting a meet-and-greet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll for individuals interested in becoming a foster grandparent to have their questions answered. Alternatively, they can contact Taylor directly by calling 712-292-5293 or email at cfgpp@hotmail.com.
