Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2022, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, IA with Father Joe Dillinger and Deacon Butch Stone officiating. Burial will take place at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday at the church.
Arnold Grote, age 85 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake. Arnold Alfred Grote was born on June 20, 1936, in Carroll, IA, to parents Anton and Loretta (Hinners) Grote. He attended elementary and high school in Arcadia, where he and his six siblings grew up. Arnold graduated from Arcadia High School with the class of 1954.
On June 7, 1956, Arnold married the love of his life Marilyn Mae Campbell in Arcadia, IA. The couple farmed at Dow City, IA, where Arnold also worked at Farmland Foods in Denison, retiring from Farmland in 1993. Later they would retire to Denison where Arnold worked for Bohlman’s and then resided in Wall Lake the last 15 ½ years.
Arnold enjoyed tending to his lawn and garden. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in their backyard. He loved puzzles and jokes and being called Ornery Arnie, especially by the T.A. nurses, it put a smile on his face. He and Marilyn enjoyed traveling especially to Branson, MO. Arnold was a member of the Wall Lake American Legion Post 262 and the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree).
Arnold was a wonderful husband, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by brothers Mike and Walt (Kathy) of Wall Lake; sister Luella (Bob) Wilwerding of Defiance, IA; sisters-in-law Lois Grote of Wall Lake, IA, Sharon Grote of Fonda, IA, Sharon Richardson of Lake City, IA, and Cheryl Campbell of Boyer, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and friends.
Arnold was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn of 65 years on October 20, 2021; his parents Anton and Loretta Grote; sister Mary Ann (Jim) Meister; brothers Tony and Leo Grote; parents-in-law Bill and Elsie Campbell; brothers-in-law Bill (Soup) Campbell and Roger Campbell.
