A Storm Lake child was injured Wednesday after being shot with an unsecured handgun by another juvenile. The Storm Lake Police Department and Buena Vista County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched at approximately 7:30 p.m. to the 600 block of E. 12th Street in Storm Lake. Upon arrival, they located a nine-year-old child with a gunshot wound to their lower body. The injured minor was transported to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say the unsecured firearm was located by another child in the home, who unintentionally discharged it. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
