Carole Skarin of Lake View

Carole Skarin, age 92 of Lake View, IA, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30p Wednesday at the First Congregational UCC in Lake View.  Visitation will be held from 1:30 – 2:30pm Wednesday prior to the service.  Burial will be in Kiron Cemetery in Kiron.  The Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View is in charge of the arrangements.
Carole Ann Nelson was born on July 25th, 1929 in Sac County Iowa. She was the 5th child of Sidney and Sophia (Theodorf) Nelson. She attended country school at Wheeler #7 and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1948.
Carole married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Skarin on December 7th, 1949 at St John’s Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township. They made their home in Kiron, Iowa. While Bob was busy delivering fuel oil, Carole was busy raising three children, Terry, Tommy, and Vicki, keeping house and volunteering at the Evangelical Free Church in Kiron. Later, she opened a second-hand store in Kiron called “Carole’s Recycle Shop”.
In 1995 Carole and Bob retired and moved to Lake View Iowa. They were married 51 years when Bob passed away of Alzheimer’s disease in 2002.
Carole enjoyed going to garage and rummage sales where she found many treasures to add to her collections. She liked decorating her house, growing flowers, and baking. She loved all things Christmas.  It was her favorite time of the year. Carole loved cats and always had one by her side.
Carole moved to Park View Rehabilitation Center, Sac City Iowa in 2018 where she spent time playing bingo, coloring, and crafts. Carole passed away at Park View Rehabilitation Center on January 12th, 2022 after a brief illness.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, brothers Emery Nelson, Dean Nelson, and Sidney Nelson, sisters Joyce (Jim) Matre, Gloria (Leonard) Goyer, and Bonnie (Ralph) Boerner.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include children: Terry Skarin of Lake View Iowa, Tommy Skarin of Ida Grove Iowa and daughter Vicki Skarin (Steve Haslach) of Minneapolis Minnesota; Grandson Alex Haslach (Lindsey) of Plymouth Minnesota and great-granddaughters Penelope and Ahnika Haslach; sisters in-law Doris Nelson, Rena Skarin, Carol Skarin; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Her family wishes to thank her physician Dr. Pek, the staff of Loring Hospital, and her amazing caregivers at Park View.
In lieu of flowers,  the family requests memorials be made to Park View Rehabilitation Center, Sac City Iowa.
