Ann Marie Vernia of Des Moines formerly of Carroll

 Ann Marie Vernia, age 70, of Des Moines, IA, and formerly of Carroll, IA, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at MercyOne West Medical Center in Des Moines surrounded by her family.

     A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Kevin Richter as Celebrant.  Music for the Mass will be by Kathy Halbur and Michelle Phillips.  Gift bearers will be Lori Macy and Kristi Hugen.  Inurnment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

     Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Church from 1:00 – 1:45 P.M. on Friday prior to the Mass.

     Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

     Ann was born on April 25, 1951 in Laurens, IA, and she was the daughter of Delmar and Marian (Wiseman) Vernia.  She grew up in Walnut until her family moved to Carroll where she graduated from Kuemper High School in 1969.  She attended cosmetology school in Des Moines and worked at several salons in Des Moines over the years.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish in Beaverdale.  She enjoyed following Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball, country music, going to concerts, and going to the Iowa State Fair.

   Ann is survived by her sister Bonnie Neumayer of Carroll; her brother Delmar Vernia (Linda) of Des Moines; two nieces: Lori Macy (Burt Sly) and Kristi Hugen (Eric); three nephews: Kevin Ortner (Cindy Owens), Tim Ortner (Nancy) and Ron Vernia (Dawn); and many good friends.

   Ann was preceded in death by her parents Delmar and Marian Vernia; a brother-in-law Stoney Neumayer; and a nephew Mike Ortner.
