Larry R Nielsen, age 84, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Terry Plocher officiating. Casket bearers will be Larry’s family members. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Thursday prior to the service.

Larry was born on August 12, 1937 in Audubon, IA, and he was the son of Rasmus and Esta (Feltner) Nielsen. Larry lived in several locations while growing up and his family settled in Carroll where he graduated from Carroll High School. He then graduated from Simpson College and later earned two masters degrees from the University of Iowa in Biology and Chemistry. He was on the wrestling team while attending the U of I. Larry taught high school Chemistry and Biology at Webster City High School for many years where he also coached volley ball and wrestling. Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll and the National Education Association. He enjoyed genealogy, gardening, bird watching, and playing and listening to Bluegrass music. Larry was very active with the Danish Museum in Elkhorn, IA. He loved to travel and visited many countries researching his family heritage along the way.
Larry is survived by several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Rasmus and Esta Nielsen.
